What’s the deal with dehusking?

Macadamia nut husks are high in sugars. So what’s the deal with dehusking? Here’s how to dehusk your macadamia nuts in a way that avoids moulding and deterioration of your nut quality.
Here are some tips on getting the most from your nuts with dehusking:
- Check at least once a week for ripe fruit, and pick nuts with husks opening on the tree
- Harvest nuts off the ground every few days, especially after windy conditions
- Don’t leave harvested nuts in a bucket or bag in a warm area for more than a day.
What to do with the husk? They can be worked into your compost bin or fed to cattle.
